Where Excellent and Ancient Items Come From
Excellent items drop from monsters with a 0.15% chance from the shared random excellent item pool. It's rare, so farming is best combined with leveling or quests.
Ancient items are mainly obtained through Jewel of Ancient. The jewel turns a regular item into an ancient one if there is a matching ancient set for it. Success chance is 30%.
Both jewels drop 5 times less often than other jewels. So expect a long grind or trade with other players on the Market.
Upgrade Jewels: Jewel of Excellent and Jewel of Ancient
Jewel of Excellent adds one excellent option to a regular weapon or armor. Success chance is 40%.
Jewel of Ancient turns a regular item into an ancient one with a 30% chance. It does not work on excellent items, so decide in advance what you need more: ancient or excellent.
For regular extra options there's Jewel of Options: adds +4 to the option up to +16, failure breaks nothing.
Both jewels, Jewel of Excellent and Jewel of Ancient, drop 5 times less often than other jewels. Don't waste them on random items if you plan to collect a set.
How Excellent and Ancient Change Item Requirements
Excellent and ancient items don't just give bonuses, they also increase the requirements for your character. The internal drop_level parameter is 25 higher for excellent, 30 higher for ancient, and each upgrade level adds +3. This means such an item is harder to equip than a regular one.
Before using a jewel, check if your hero has enough level and stats. Otherwise the item may be useless until you level up.
Ancient Sets: 36 Sets and Their Bonuses
There are 36 ancient sets on the server. Each set consists of several items: armor, weapon, rings or pendants. The full bonus activates when the required items from the set are equipped.
For example, the Agnis set gives Critical Damage Bonus +20 and Excellent Damage Bonus +20. The Berserker set adds Skill Damage Bonus +50 and Total Strength +40.

Recycling Excellent Items and Crafting Wings
Excellent items can be recycled into Higher Refining Stone at Osbourne. Regular items give Lower Refining Stone. These stones are needed for crafting in the Chaos Machine.
When creating 2nd level wings, you can add excellent items +4 or higher to increase the success chance up to 90%. Base craft cost is 5,000,000 Zen.
So even unwanted excellent drops come in handy: don't rush to throw them away.
Practical Tips
Level up in areas with dense farming to see more monsters and get a chance for a 0.15% excellent drop. Don't waste Jewel of Excellent on a random item if you plan to collect an ancient set.
Check the Market: players sell ready excellent and ancient items for goblin points. That may be faster than collecting everything yourself.
Don't try to make ancient from excellent: Jewel of Ancient doesn't work on excellent items. One item cannot be both excellent and ancient.
